What is creative writing?
Creative writing is defined as a form of writing which uses the creativity of the writer, expressing their feelings, emotions or thoughts. It can also be defined as the pursuit of artistic ends through the written words. Creative writing examples includes pieces that are fiction, nonfiction, prose, poem, memoir or any other type of writing that requires creativity.
While writing, there are some useful creative writing techniques to remember that can enhance your writing techniques. First, the content should be significant and of concrete detailing. Second, the language must be precise. Precise language is the difference between an engaging story or poem and a boring piece of work.
Like all writing, the creative writing format requires an introduction, a body and a conclusion, or better put, a beginning, middle and end. This is the generally recommended format and is a good way to structure your outline.
Your introduction will be just one short paragraph, but it should capture your audience’s attention with those few sentences. Let them know what they will be reading and craft a thesis sentence to sum up your main point. The thesis sentences will be what the entire essay is centered upon.
The main part of an essay is called the body, made up of several paragraphs. Each paragraph should support the original thesis statement and provide further proof of your claims. Most essays have a minimum of three body paragraphs, but may go on much longer, depending on the topic.
Transition one paragraph to the next with transitional words to make the text easier to read. Ideally, the essay should flow smoothly from one idea to the next.
In the conclusion, you will summarize the rest of the essay in just a couple of sentences. You should also rewrite the thesis statement and include it here. Remember that this is the last impression the reader will have of your work, so make it a good one.
Finally, go back over the essay and proofread it all. Proofreading an essay involves checking spelling, grammar, sentence fluency and checking the overall flow of your creative writing ideas.
