Middle School Essay Templates and Format

A middle school essay format can be anywhere from one to five paragraphs in length.

Middle school essay examples include a variety of short essays such as narrative, persuasive and analytical.

To write a middle school essay outline the first step is to identify the type of essay you need to write.

Middle school essays are very focused and generally concern one topic or one narrative story. The most common type of essay format is the 5 paragraph essay. Like all essays, the 5 paragraph essay contains an introduction, a body and a conclusion. For this type of essay, the introduction is one paragraph, the body is three paragraphs and the conclusion is one paragraph. This is the generally recommended format and is a good way to structure your outline.

The Introduction

The point of an introduction is to capture your reader’s interest and explain what the essay is about. The introduction will also contain a thesis statement. A thesis statement is usually one sentence that summarizes the entire point of your essay.

The Body

The main part of an essay is called the body. In the 5 paragraph essay, the body is three paragraphs long. Each paragraph should include one supporting point that provides more information or evidence about your thesis statement.

Make sure to include transitions from one paragraph to the next. Your ideas should be presented in a way that your reader can follow, even with very little background knowledge of your topic.

The Conclusion

The conclusion of a short essay is the most memorable part for a reader. In the conclusion, you can summarize your main idea. The conclusion can summarize the introduction or thesis statement using different wording.

After writing, proofread your essay. Proofreading a short essay involves checking spelling, grammar, sentence fluency and checking the overall cohesion of your ideas.
