How to Write a Persuasive Essay
As the name suggests, this is a type of essay that deals with persuading or convincing your readers into thinking or doing something. The format for this writing structure is straightforward. Be it in form of an essay, letter, or article, follow the outline explained below.
NB: It is advisable you choose the side that has more forms of evidence even though you may not agree with that position.
Outline
The Introduction
- This is where you use the “Hook” paragraph to draw your readers’ attention.
- Position: Mention where you stand on the matter and stick to it all through your essay.
- Evidence: Provide supporting reasons that enhance the side of you choose, including at least three reasons separated in different paragraphs.
The Body
Paragraph #1: First reason
- Start with a topic sentence
- Include at least three details and explanations for them.
Paragraph #2: Second reason
- Start with a topic sentence
- Include at least three details and explanations for them
Paragraph #3: Third reason
- Start with a topic sentence
- Include at least three details and explanations for them
- Provide a counter argument that one may have towards yours and refute it.
Conclusion
- Summarize the main points
- Restate your thesis, but exactly like you did earlier in the introduction.
