How to Write a Novel

Writing a novel can seem like a daunting task. However, if you've ever wondered how to write a book or novel, WriteWell can simplify the process and provide you with the tips you need to get your own project started.

1. Keep your eyes and ears open

Search for inspiration all around you. People you meet, places you go, and things you do can all serve as inspiration for characters, settings, themes, and plot for your story.

2. Carry a journal

You never know when creativity will strike, so be sure you're ready when it does. You may be waiting in line at the coffee shop when you figure out how to narrate a particular section of your story, or sitting on the train when you overhear a great snippet of dialog that would be just the thing your main character would say.

3. Share your work

Getting feedback on your writing can be the scariest -- but most crucial -- aspect of writing. Check in with people you trust to give you honest, constructive feedback on certain passages, paragraphs, or the entire piece.

4. Create characters people will care about

Put a lot of thought into creating dynamic, engaging characters that your readers will love (or love to hate). You could have the most creative plot in the world but if the characters are one dimensional and dull, your readers will likely give up on your story. Map out each character's development over the course of the story and think about how you are illustrating those changes.
