When answering TOEFL essay questions, you can use a writing template that allows you to attempt both aspects, confidently. If you want to know how to use a TOEFL essay template, fill in the blank spaces with information from a source or your experience.

#1 Integrated Essay Template 

Introduction: Use the writing style below for this aspect.

-       The reading and the lecture discuss on ...

-       The author feels that ... OR; The author of the article presents three theories about ...

-       The lecturer opposes the claims made in the article.

-       His/her position is that ...

 

Body: Use the writing style below for the paragraphs you write here.

-       Based on the article, ...

-       The reading states that ...

-       The lecturer challenges this particular argument.

-       He/she claims that ...

-       Also, he/she mentions that ...

 

 

-       Secondly, the author hints ...

-       In the article, it is pointed out that ...

-       The lecturer, however, maintains that ...

-       He\she moves forward saying ...

 

 

-       Finally, the author states that ...

-       The author argues that ...

-       In contrast, the lecturer’s position is ...

-       He/she notes that ...

NB: A conclusion won’t be necessary here. Your whole essay should have at least 400 words.

 

#2 Independent Essay Template

Paragraph 1 (Introduction)

Hook: This is where you introduce the general topic of your essay in an interesting manner.

E.g. It is very essential that ...

The main point: As it suggests, this is where you state your argument.

E.g. Personally, I believe ...

The transition: This is a writing method that clearly shows how you move on to another paragraph.

E.g. I am of this opinion for two reasons, which I will discuss in the following essay.

Paragraph 2 (First body)

Topic sentence – sentence 1

Provide a summary for your first supporting reason.

The explanation – sentence 2/3

Explain your reason, but avoid using personal experiences.

The transition – sentence 4

You may write a transition sentence such as: My personal experience is a convincing demonstration of this.

The personal example – sentence 6 and beyond

Provide an example from your life that demonstrates this argument. It should contain around 60% of this body.

Paragraph 3 (Second body)

Topic sentence – sentence 1

Provide a summary for your second supporting reason.

The explanation – sentence 2/3

Explain your reason, but avoid using personal experiences.

The transition – sentence 4

You may write a transition statement beginning with a phrase like: For instance, ...

The personal example – sentence 5 and beyond

Provide an example from your life that demonstrates this argument. It should contain around 60% of this body.

Paragraph 4 (Conclusion)

Restate the thesis – sentence 1

Rephrase your thesis statement but not with exact words as written earlier.

Restate the two explored reasons – sentence 2

You may write this as: This is the reason why ... and ...

NB: Entire essay should have at least 400 words
